2 Dead in Canada Hot Air Balloon Fire

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - A hot air balloon burst into flames over western Canada, burning a woman and her adult daughter to death while their families looked on, officials said Saturday.

Other passengers leaped to the ground, some with their clothes in flames, witnesses said.Eleven passengers were seriously injured when the balloon crashed Friday evening in a recreational vehicle park near the U.S border in Surrey, British Columbia, a suburb of Vancouver. There were 12 passengers and a pilot on board, police and witnesses said.

John Kageorge, who works for Fantasy Balloon Charters, said the fire started as the ballon was about to launch. Kageorge said three passangers did not get out of the basket before it became airborne.

"One person jumped from an unsafe distance, two stories in the air or more," said Kageorge. The mother and daughter did not jump, he said, although two of their family members made it out of the basket.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Roger Morrow confirmed the deaths and said relatives of the two passengers killed witnessed the fire."It's just tragic. They watched it unfold before their eyes," Morrow said of the family. "The fatalities suffered from burns."

The balloon caught fire as it prepared to launch, said Bill Yearwood, an investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

"The crew loaded 12 passengers and was preparing to launch when a fire erupted. The pilot asked the passengers to get out of the basket," he said. "The balloon was tethered at the time, but then broke and came loose," he added.

"They were all trying to get out."
After most of the passengers escaped, the balloon exploded in a fireball and shot up into the air. Shortly after, the burning balloon plunged to ground in the RV park, leaving a tail of thick black smoke in its wake.
"I can't tell you what exactly happened when the balloon was loosened from the tether," Yearwood said. "We will be talking to attending crew members and the pilot to find out."

He said the pilot was in stable condition.
"The thing went up about 400 feet in the air at which point it melted enough of the balloon — it collapsed," said Don Randall, a resident of the trailer park who took pictures of the scene. "The basket was basically a fireball. It just dropped like a stone," he added.

"I'm just thinking, 'Oh geez, I hope there's nobody in that thing. It's basically a burning death up there,'" he said.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the crash site from miles away.
Another resident, Karen Ashby, held back tears while she explained how she watched the coroner sift through the blackened wreckage.

"They found the bodies in here," Ashby said. "I watched them take them out."
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Weather conditions were clear at the time of the sunset flight.

"People were screaming and trying to get out," Frank Hersey said Friday night near a grassy field where several of the injured were being attended to by ambulance crews.

Perry Kendall said he saw what looked like something out of a movie.
"It was horrifying," said a shaken Kendall. "Just looking at people screaming and jumping out of there. Some of them, I think, had fire on their clothes. It was just awful."

Witnesses also said propane tanks from the balloon shot off and landed on the Hazelmere RV park below, setting fire to three trailers and several vehicles. No one was reported hurt in those blazes.

"We're exceptionally lucky that nobody in any of these three trailers or in the vehicles that were destroyed were caught in them," Morrow said.

The hot-air balloon, operated by Fantasy Balloons Charters based in Langley, British Columbia, was one of several balloons in flight at the time. The balloon that burned, Kageorge said, was about nine stories high.

There was a similar accident earlier this month in the central Canadian province of Manitoba, Manitoba, where 12 people were injured.

Boy's testicles stuck in pipe after fall

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A screaming 9-year-old was rushed to hospital with his testicles stuck in a metal pipe.

The boy had to endure the pain for almost 30 minutes before doctors operated on him and removed the pipe.

The incident happened at the boy’s home in Kampung Baru here at 10.15pm on Sunday.

It is learnt that the boy was having a bath when his younger brother called out to him from an adjacent room.

He climbed up the bathroom partition to see why his brother was making a ruckus when he slipped and landed on an uncovered metal pipe which runs into the concrete water tank.

His father, 50, rushed into the bathroom and was shocked to see his son lying on the floor with his testicles stuck in the pipe.

Medical staff who responded to the emergency call were forced to call firemen for help when they too failed to remove the pipe.

Bukit Mertajam fire officer Rohana Mustafa said they had to use a hydraulic cutter to cut both ends of the pipe.

The boy was then rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital with his testicles still caught in the L-shaped pipe.

He underwent a 30-minute operation and was discharged from the hospital at noon yesterday.

Kannasai: well, feel pity to the boy, hopefully his 'balls' function not affected. Guys, must be carefully as well.

A paper boat fit for a king

As a kid, I used to make paper boats, which also doubled as hats, from newspapers with my grandfather. I always wished that newspapers were larger so that we could make a boat large enough for the two of us. Something like this:

This particular paper boat was made by German artist Frank Boelter, and is made entirely from Tetrapack (the material used for milk cartons). He claims it should stay afloat for about 40 days, which is far better than the 40 seconds my newspaper boats would float.

Surprisingly, the boat only cost about $220 to make … which seems pretty cheap for a 30 foot vessel, even if it isn’t exactly ocean worthy.

~EIGHT LIES OF A MOTHER~

1. The story began when I was a child;
I was born as a son to a poor family.
Even during meals, we often had a lacked of food.
Whenever during meals, mother often gave me her portion of rice.
While she was removing her rice into my bowl, she would say "Eat this rice, son. I'm not hungry".
That was Mother's First Lie

2. When I was growing up, the persevering mother gave her spare time for fishing in a river near our house, she hoped that from the fishes she had caught, she could gave me a little bit of nutritious food for my growth.
After fishing, she would cook the fishes to make fresh fish soups,
which raised my appetite. While I was drinking the soup,
mother would sit beside me and eat the remaining flesh of the fish, which were still on the bones of the fish which I ate.
My heart was touched when I saw it. I then gave the other fish to her. But she immediately refused it and said "Eat this fish, son.
I don't really like fish."
That was Mother's Second Lie.

3. Then, when I was in Junior High School, to fund my study, mother went to a company to bring home some match boxes to stick them for some income.
It gave her some money for to cover our daily needs.
As the winter came, I woke up from my sleep and saw my mother who was still awoke, supported by a little candlelight and within her perseverance she continued the work of sticking some match boxes.
I said, "Mother, go to sleep, it's late. T omorrow morning you still have to go for work.
Mother smiled and said "Go to sleep, dear. I'm not tired."
That was Mother's Third Lie.

4. Then came the final term exam.
Mother applied leave from her work in order to accompany me.
As the morning disappeared and the rays of the sun was starting to shine, the strong and persevering mother waited for me under the heat of the sun for several hours.
As the bell rang, which indicated that the final exam had finished,
mother immediately welcomed me and poured me a glass of tea
that she had prepared before.
The very thick tea was not as thick as my mother's love, which was much thicker. Seeing my mother covering with perspiration, I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too.
Mother said "Drink, son. I'm not thirsty!".
That was Mother's Fourth Lie.

5. After the death of my father due to an illness, my poor mother had to play her role as a single parent.
By holding on to her former job, she had to fund our daily needs alone. Our family life became more complicated. No days without sufferings.
Seeing our family's condition getting worse, there was a nice uncle who lived nearby came to help us, in some big and a small ways.
Our neighbours saw that our family's life was so unfortunate,
they often advised my mother to marry again. But mother, who was stubborn, didn't heed their advice, she said "I don't need love."
That was Mother's Fifth Lie.

6. After I had finished my study and got a job, it was time for my old mother to retire.
But she didn't want to; she continued to go to the marketplace every morning, just to sell some vegetables to fulfill her needs.
I was working in the other city, often sent her some money to help her in fulfilling her needs, but she was stubborn and did not accept the money. She even sent the money back to me. She said "I have enough money."
That was Mother's Sixth Lie.

7. After graduation with a Bachelor's Degree, I continued my studies to get the Masters.
I got the degree, which was funded by a company through a scholarship program, from a famous University in America.
I finally worked in that company. With quite a high salary, I intended to take my mother for a holiday in America.
But my lovely mother didn't want to bother her son, she said to me, "I'm not used to travelling."
That was Mother's Seventh Lie.

8. After entering her old age, mother got a flank cancer and had to be hospitalized.
I, who lived in miles away and across the ocean, directly came home to visit my dearest mother.
She lied down in weakness on her bed after having an operation.
Mother, who looked so old, was staring at me in deep yearning.
She tried to spread her smile on her face;
yet it looked so stiff because of the disease she was holding out.
It was clear enough to see how the disease broke my mother's body, but not her spirit and love..thus she looked so weak and thin.
I stared at my mother with tears flowing..
My heart was hurt, so hurt, seeing my mother in that condition.
But mother, with her strength, said "Don't cry, my dear.
I'm not in pain."
That was Mother's Eight Lie.

After saying her eighth lie, She closed her eyes forever!

Looking For A Long Lost Friend

As per request from NAFASG, just lend a hand for the below 'looking for a long lost friend' article. Well, i may not much help, but at least we are trying.

Looking For A Long Lost Friend
Dear Readers,

We hope that you can spare some of your time reading this article. It would mean a lot to one of our good friends in the blogosphere, if you can help her in this.

Our good friend named Sandy is currently searching for a person whom she had always regarded as her best friend. They were very close to each other, until a conflict between them arose. Ever since then, both of them lost touch of each other.

It has been nine long years since they last communicated with each other, and Sandy is deeply affected by her best friend’s absence. Her greatest wish right now is to reunite with her best friend and be close to her like before.

SANDY G

Her best friend’s name is Judy Sanford and is staying with her husband named Mike. According to Sandy, she was last found to be staying in California. Whether she is still staying in California or not is still a question mark. But you could be the person to answer the question!

If you happened to know Judy and her whereabouts, kindly inform us or inform Sandy directly via her blog. Even if you have never heard of Judy, you can still do your part by spreading this heartfelt message via your blogs.

Your immediate response to this message is greatly appreciated. What we are doing may be something small, but if all of us can put our hands together and be part of the search, it can bring two best friends together again after nine long years.

Sandy, please be strong in going through this obstacle in your life. Have great faith that miracles can happen, always look on the bright side of life, and believe that your long awaited wish could come true. We are here for you and will do our best to help you.

Judy, if you are reading this, please contact Sandy as soon as possible. She really misses you and wants to make up for the lost times. Let bygones be bygones. Hope that you will reciprocate Sandy’s feelings as soon as you can. (end of article)

Note: if you have any related info about Judy, please direct contact Sandy G at her blog: click here

Inspiring Quotes

1) Never expect things to happen, struggle and make them happen. Never expect yourself to be given a good value, create a value of your own.

Penang Jetty tragedy 1988

In 1988, there was a major tragedy where the Butterworth jetty collapsed due to overloading. Many people were killed and injured on that sad day which happened to be dual major festivals, where the Guan Yin birthday co-incide with St. Anne’s feast.

I was 6 years old at the time, still can remember that was a big news at that time.
Maybe, many of us had forget about it.

PUKI MAK ULAH

Maybe you had read it before from other blogs, but it really funny, so I post here and share with all my friends.

“How to talk to a taxi driver?”
Driver: .........

Note: Some people said this road can be encountered somewhere around Bandar Sunway (between PJ and Subang). But some people pretty sure it is fake. Even if it is exist, is done by vandals. So, if you know more, pls share with us.

A smart love letter:

There's a couple and they love each other deeply however, the girl's father does not like the boy and want them stop their relationship...........and so......the boy wrote this letter to the girl.....he knows that the girl's father will definitely read this letter...

1 "The great love that I have for you
2 is gone, and I find my dislike for you
3 grows everyday. When I see you,
4 I do not even like your face;
5 the one thing that I want to do is to
6 look at other girls. I never wanted to
7 marry you. Our last conversation
8 was very boring and has not
9 made me look forward to seeing you again.
10 You think only of yourself.
11 If we were married, I know that I would find
12 life very difficult, and I would have no
13 pleasure in living with you. I have a heart
14 to give, but it is not something that
15 I want to give to you. No one is more
16 foolish and selfish than you, and you are not
17 able to take care for me and help me
18 I sincerely want you to understand that
19 I speak the truth. You will do me a favor
20 if you think this is the end. Do not try
21 to answer this. Your letters are full of
22 things that do not interest me. You have no
23 true love for me. Good-bye ! Believe me,
24 I do not care for you. Please do not think that
25 I am still your boyfriend."

So bad !! However, before handing over the letter to the girl, the boy told the girl to "READ BETWEEN THE LINES"..... meaning-only to read 1,3,5,7,9,11,13.....etc (odd number)

So please try reading it again !

FiveFingers - The Barefooting Alternative

FiveFingers design takes a minimalist approach to barefooting. Non-marking Vibram TC1 performance rubber soles protect your feet and provide a sure grip over a variety of terrain. A thin, abrasion-resistant stretch polyamide fabric fits low on the foot - for comfort and quick drying.

Vibram FiveFingers is different than any other footwear on the planet. Not only does it bring you closer to nature, it delivers a number of positive health benefits—by leveraging all of the body’s biomechanics so you can move as nature intended.

When you walk, run, or climb in FiveFingers, you experience a sense of touch and feel that is simply not possible in conventional performance footwear. We call this a haptic response, and it describes your body’s sensibility to the world around you.

A patent-pending design and Vibram outsole mirrors the flex points and silhouette of your foot and toes to propel your body forward and promote a more natural gait.

By stimulating the muscles of your lower legs and feet, you add strength, improve balance, and increase agility.

A lower heel position leads to stronger legs and feet, straightens your spine, improves posture, and reduces back pain.

Individual toe compartments gently spread your toes to strengthen foot muscles, increase range of motion and improve foot health.

The best answers

You know, when I didn’t know an answer to a test or quiz in school, I would usually just leave it blank, or make an educated guess.

Now I wish I could be like these brilliant people and just write something funny. Then I could at least be proud of my answer.

Though, when pressed by professors to write a paper comparing the social views of Miller and Thoreau, I wrote a two-paragraph introduction about the superiority of candy. And I still got an A. That’s something to be proud of.

A lesson in Lean - Banish worry and doubt

When you were very young, you developed an astounding number of new skills in a short period of time. You quickly worked your way from a helpless infant into a capable and knowledgeable young person.

How were you able to make such rapid progress? One big reason why you moved ahead so quickly was because you weren't worried about making mistakes.

Certainly you did make your share of mistakes. You fell down while learning to walk, and used the wrong words while learning to talk.

And yet, you persisted, undeterred by your past errors and unimpeded by the prospect of more mistakes. You had an unshakable faith that you would eventually get it right, and indeed you did.

When your focus is only on avoiding mistakes, you avoid achievement as well. Being constantly worried about getting it wrong prevents you from getting it right.

Choose to learn one more important lesson from the rapid progress you achieved as a child. Banish worry and doubt from your efforts, and see how very much more quickly you move forward.

Upgrading from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 - System Error, Please Reboot!

Dear IT Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the flower, gifts and jewellery applications that had operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, but installed undesirable programs such as Formula One 5.0, NBA 3.0 and World Cup 2.0.

And now Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate Housewife

Reply:

Dear Desperate Housewife,

First keep in mind:

Boyfriend 5.0 is an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Try entering the command C:\ I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME and download Tears 6.2 to install Guilt 3.0.

If all works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Late Night Teh Tarik 6.1.

Late Night 6.1 is a very bad program that will create SnoringLoudly.wav files.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother- in-Law 1.0 or reinstall another Boyfriend program. These are not supported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have a limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.

You might consider additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Tasty Food 3.0 and Tongkat Ali 6.9.

Good Luck,
IT Support

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Toilet Restaurant

Guys, maybe you had seen this before from the news paper or forwarded mail. But when I see it again today, I decide share again with you here, because it really.........Kannasai!!

A new restaurant in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung seats diners not at tables and chairs but rather toilets. Meals at The Martun ("toilet" in Chinese) are presented in toilet bowls of both Western and Asian styles.

Manager Hung Lin-wen said the original inspiration came from a toilet-shaped spaceship in a Japanese cartoon. The theme has attracted droves of novelty-seeking young people who come to play with their food and gross out their friends...

But no matter how delicious, a few customers still find the combination a little hard to swallow.

"The taste is good, but I still feel disgusted when I look at it," said diner Lin Yu-may.

Horse mosaic made of toothpicks

Albanian painter Saimir Strati works on a horse mosaic made of toothpicks at the International Center of Culture on August 8, 2007 in Tirana, Albania. Strati will use around a million toothpicks on a eight metre squared polystyrene board, in an attempt to secure a place in the Guinness World Record with the largest 3D toothpick mosaic. This work will take around 25 days after which experts from the Guinness World Record will give their verdict.

Stove burning nonstop for 143 years

A 143-year-old Beijing roast duck restaurant may be closing for renovations but it is not about to let its ovens go cold.

To maintain its tradition, the restaurant said it will keep embers from its wood-fired ovens burning during the six-month refurbishing job.

The oldest outlet of Quanjude Group of roast duck restaurants, on Qianmen Street in downtown Beijing, closed for business on Tuesday night.

A ceremony to preserve the oven fire, which the restaurant says has not been extinguished since it first opened in 1864, was conducted before the end of business at 8 PM on Tuesday.

According to the restaurant’s electronic board, the restaurant has served 115,330,259 ducks in over 140 years of service.

"The electric board will stop tracking the ducks, but the stove has been burning for about a century and a half, and the fire will never die out," Jiang Junxian, chairman of the board of Quanjude Group Co. Ltd. said.

German diver sets breathtaking record

A German man has broken his own world record for holding his breath under water after managed to remain submerged for 15 minutes and two seconds.

Tom Sietas, a 30-year-old engineering student from Hamburg exceeded his own Guinness record time by 37 seconds at the world free diving championships in New York.

Emerging from his single-breath dive, which was watched live on US national television, Mr Seitas said: "I'm hungry". He prepared for his record-breaking stunt with a five-hour fast which helps to slow his metabolism.

While his feat went virtually unnoticed in his native Germany, he was celebrated in New York by stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jordan.

Mr Sietas began free-diving over a decade ago after a scuba diving instructor he met on a holiday in Jamaica recognised his extraordinary ability to hold his breath.

He has since held a total of 12 world records.
His success yesterday was helped by inhaling pure oxygen for 20 minutes prior to the event. The world record for breath being held under water without the assistance of inhaled oxygen stands at nine minutes and eight seconds, and is also held by Sietas.

Mr Sietas has attracted much attention from the medical profession for being able to do what is physically impossible for most.

But according to Dr Marc Spero, a lung expert for the organisation Divers Alert Network, he has the natural advantage that his lungs are 20% larger than average for a man of his size.

He also manages to maintain a corpse-like stillness that helps him to preserve oxygen. In a similar situation most people would be flailing and gasping for air and wasting oxygen in the process.

Mr Sietas said that holding his breath helped him to deal with stress, such as getting over an argument with his girlfriend, because he didn't think about anything when he was under water.

The art of free-diving was famously dramatised in the 1988 Luc Besson film Le Grand Bleu about the rivalry between two world-class divers.
